Ways of the Seven
Twice a year, Fort Tenethim is home to the Fair, which is the single most important event in Tennuvia.
In the spring, the city hosts the Stallion Fair, which almost every Tennuvian lord attends, bringing their best stallion stock with them. It is a chance to see what everyone else is breeding, and to select animals to breed one’s own mares to for the next season. The highlight of this fair, however, are the Trials. These contests are designed to test a stud’s athletic ability, as well as their conformation, temperament and versatility. The Count selects his favorite from the entries, and this stallion is dubbed “The Lord’s horse” and is bred to one of his finest mares. In the spring, if the resulting foal is a colt, it is kept by the count, but if it is a filly, it is given to the owner of the stallion after it is weaned.
The fall fair is for the sale of youngstock. Breeders bring the animals that they deem unsuitable for their own breeding purposes and offer them for sale to others. It is at this time, also, that traders set out with horses to sell in other parts of the Empire.
