Kordic Sea

Legend has it that the Kordic Sea, which forms a large semicircular bay bordering Alkonost and Arlienna, was created when the god Kord, then still the mortal hero Marduk, slew the dragon goddess Tiamat, whose death throes created a massive crater which filled with seawater. Regardless of the veracity of this origin, the Kordic Sea is named for the god and is wracked with terrible storms nearly continuously. The storms are of such unnatural intensity and frequency that scholars believe them to be magic-born, lending credence to the sea’s supposed supernatural origin.

Rarer than the typical storms, which threaten only the destruction of the body, is the magical lightning that some sailors claim to have encountered. A man struck by such lightning can find himself or his possessions teleported hundreds of miles away, or polymorphed into a new form. The veracity of the magical lightning is hard to ascertain, and many such stories may have their genesis at the bottom of a mug of grog.
