Ways of the Seven
The military forces of Valua are drawn from the armies of the Valuan aristocracy and the Valuan Imperial Legion. The armies of Valuan lords can include armored horseback knights, pikemen and javelineers, peasant militiamen, archers, and occasionally a mage, cleric or other spellcaster or spellcasters employed by the lord. The armies of each province of Valua are generally commanded by the most experienced or skilled margrave in the area.
The Imperial Legion consists of an elite corps of troops in direct service to the Emperor of Valua. The size of the Legion is maintained at a ratio to the estimated military might of the provincial armies of Valua, so that rebellious provinces could only challenge the Legion if a majority of the Provinces were to fight in concordance. Although relatively small in number, the Imperial Legion is composed of only the best and most loyal soldiers from throughout Valua, and because of the wealth and prestige at the Emperor’s personal army’s disposal, the Legion boasts the most devastatingly effective spellcasting regiments in the known world. The Imperial Guard has a strict chain of command, and are lead by the Supreme Commander Claimh Solais, a warrior of formidable skill.
The Legion is divided into cohorts of 480 men commanded by a hastatus. Cohorts are, in turn, composed of six centuries of 80 men, each commanded by a centurion.
