Ways of the Seven
The Nezumi are a race of bi-pedal rat-people. They stand at about human height, but tend toward shortness, have elongated snouts, sharp incisors, naked, whip-like tails and claws on their feet and hands. They are covered in fur of a variety of colours and patterns, except for their hands, feet and tails. Some nezumi grow hair on their heads like humans, but many have only short fur. Their eyes tend to have a larger iris and pupil than human eyes, and come in a wider variety of shades, from dark browns to bright yellows and vibrant purples.
Albinism is more common in nezumi than other species, and it affects them less, as they tend to avoid sunlight regularly. An albino nezumi has pure white fur, very pale skin and red or pink eyes.
Nezumi walk digitigrade, and can move quite rapidly even over uneven ground. They are excellent climbers and swimmers, and their nimbleness gives them an edge at stealth.
The land to the north of the Ontenzin Clans’ territories is rocky, dry and riddled with monster-filled caves. The Seven Clans set aside the area for the Nezumi Tribes to take residence. The various tribes that live there subside mostly on hunting and gathering. The only permanent settlements in the Nezumi Lands are built around marshes where rice paddies have been constructed.
Many nezumi live amongst humans, however, forming a lower class in cities and a labour pool in rural areas.
